Every year, wildfires burn across the United States, and a growing number of people are living where wildfires are a real risk. In 2016, a total of 4,312 structures were destroyed by wildfires, including more than 3,000 homes and more than 70 commercial buildings.  According to the National Interagency Fire Center, during  2017  the U.S. saw more than 56,000 wildfires burn more than 9 million acres of land.  Did you know that nearly 9 out of 10 wildland fires are started by humans?  You can do your part to help prevent wildfires:

  • Cut back trees on your property and move  all flammable materials away from your property.
  • Be a responsible camper and always put out a campfire before leaving.
  • While towing a vehicle be sure that all tow chains are secure and never dragging.
  • Be prepared:   Gather emergency supplies and plan escape routes
