EMS Awareness
In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to celebrate EMS professionals and the important work they do in our Nation's communities. National Emergency Medical Services Week is celebrated annually during the third week of May. It is a time to honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's frontline. EMS professionals play a vital role in saving lives during emergencies, as they are often the first responders to critical medical situations. EMS services include dispatch, first responders, fire departments, ambulance agencies, hospital emergency departments, and state EMS offices. During EMS Week, we celebrate the important contributions of EMS professionals in safeguarding the health, safety and well-being of our communities 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
EMS Week provides an opportunity to show gratitude and appreciation for their work.
Thank a first responder who has helped you or someone you know!
