The Avra Valley Fire District has the responsibility to protest our residents and visitors from the dangers of hazardous materials in or passing through our district. AVFD has specialized personnel trained in Haz-Mat response for fire fighters. It is the goal of these firefighters to ensure the safe and effective mitigation of Haz-Mat leaks. Initial priorities include rescue of those who have been affected from the chemical, Identification of the material, denial of entry to the affected area, as well as stopping the leak and preventing runoff and further contamination. Avra Valley Fire is assisted by the Pima Regional Haz-Mat Team, which will provide necessary equipment and personnel to assist in operations.
